Open to the public
Simon Frisch's practice is rooted into painting. He uses a wide range of supports such as cardboard and shoeboxes that are covered with broad-brush strokes. He is not concerned with issues pertaining to long term preservation of works, and the idea of presenting an autonomous painting exhibition goes against his principles as an artist. His interests lie in science and artistic production, he also is a self taught filmmaker and publishes his own books. (He is an adept of the Nouvelle Vague). Collaboration with artists of different disciplines is very much integrated into his practice i.e. with Bernd Krauß, a Balmoral scholar in 2000, or Daniel Schürer, current resident in Balmoral.
The citizens of Bad Ems were introduced to Simon Frisch in 2001, when he performed 'Der Spieler' by Dostoevsky together with Bernd Krauß as 'Theater Societät' at the Marble Hall. With the support of Balmoral, Mr. Frisch and Mr. Krauß also performed 'Älterer Herr sucht Begleiting' at the Kunstmesse Mainz in 2002. Together they have realized projects in Weimar, Hamburg and Hanover.
Simon Frisch is particularly interested in mobiles that are used as camera. He organised the first Mobile Festival in Hildesheim and held a conference 'Art and culture of mobile videos at the 'Film- and Fernsehwissenschaftliches Kolloquium'.
We are honoured to benefit from the presence of such distinguished guest. The ensuing discussions promise to be thrilling and we hope very much that you will join us!
