After WIRED NextFest'08 in Chicago and the 3rd International Contemporary Art Biennale, Seville we're pleased to announce that Cell Phone Disco is part of the LIGHTWAVE exhibition at the Science Gallery, Dublin.
Celebrating innovation
Now in its second year LIGHTWAVE gives an unique chance to experiment with illumination in the company of a bright and buzzing community of scientists, engineers, philosophers and techno-artists who are passionate about the visible spectrum. From January 23-31st the LIGHTWAVE festival will thrill and delight Dublin city, and the LIGHTWAVE exhibition will continue until February 20th.
In keeping with the philosophy of Science Gallery, LIGHTWAVE is generated through an open call for ideas. From ten thousand peacock feathers in foaming acid to electric fish and a new kind of fuel cell to provide off-grid light in Africa, we have a full range of delights in store for you at the LIGHTWAVE festival, exhibition, talks and workshops.
About Cell Phone Disco
Cell Phone Disco is a surface that visualises the electromagnetic field of a mobile phone. When you make a call near its surface several thousand lights spark up, making the invisible visible by translating a part of the electromagnetic spectrum into visible light. Since 2006 the Cell Phone Disco concept found its way to both an international art and science community and to museums and galleries around the world.
After a year of effort we are now happy to introduce an installation featuring newly developed sensors with higher sensitivity, brighter light and fine-tuned responsiveness.
Informationlab is a tag that identifies the collaborative efforts of an international group operating at the shifting intersection of art, science, technology & design. Since 2004 Informationlab founders Auke Touwslager (NL) and Ursula Lavrencic (SLO) seen their efforts being adopted by different fields and audiences. Most of the group collaboration is based on curiosity driven research which subsequently lead to a variety of self-initiated projects, publications, workshops and lectures.
About the Science Gallery
Conceived in 2008 the Science Gallery is the first venue of its kind in the world. A gallery where science and technology are the catalyst that enable people of all interests and backgrounds to share their thinking and explore ideas through installations, workshops and events.
This project has been supported by The Science Gallery and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
