‚RINGEN'
Group Show at Cream Contemporary Gallery
With Johanna Billing, Guillaume Bruère, Nezaket Ekici, Linda Franke, Patrycja German, Å?ukasz Gronowski, Edith Kollath, Chelsea Leventhal, Willem Julius Müller, Miguel Angel Rios
curated by Charlotte Esser and Susanne Husse
The exhibition RINGEN shows ten unusual works of international contemporary art, which are based on different forms of self confrontation and confrontation with the world. The artists explore the complex problems of an individual and social contextualisation from diverse angles. All the while adjoining the elementary physical experience of being in the world.
Dynamics of battles, games and sexuality are the main themes of the argentinean Videoartist Miguel Angel Rios. His work was last shown at the Videonale 12 at the art museum Bonn and at the Armory Show in New York.
Patrycja German, awardee of this years Hap-Grieshaber-award shows her video ‚100 vs. 100', a surprisingly ironic performance piece.
Existential, manic and intoxicating is how the frenchman Guillaume Bruère faces the conflict with his own creative self and his role models in his paintings, collages and sculptures.
Å?ukasz Gronowski is a celebrated photography newcomer in his home country Poland. His Polaroid series „Poddani' throws the observer into a world, far away from standardised structures of cognition and action. The inciting moment of motionlessnes, deseleration and irresolution within a situation appointed by compulsions, which can be experienced in Gronowski work is also a main theme of Johanna Billing's video works. She is said to be one of the most important swedish concept- and video artists of our time. Her work has been shown at PS.1. New York, at Tate Modern and at the Documenta 12.
With her performances at the Biennale of Venice in 2007 and currently at the art museum Heidenheim, the german-turkish Abramovic-student Nezaket Ekici attracted international attention. With her moving sculptures, designed especially for this exhibition, Ekici is focusing on agonising with time, body and identity by letting esthetic and material constistency explode into the living physicalness and state of being a sensual woman.
The gallery Cream Contemporary was founded in 2007 by Thomas Andrae and Moritz Kaufmann in Berlin. It is focused on an enduring developement of the represented artists, aiming at professional and international standards.
