Please join the MA Curating Contemporary Art 2009 graduates at the Royal College of Art to celebrate the publication of Friends of the Divided Mind. This catalogue is an extension of the exhibition of the same name, which took place at the RCA 18–29 March, 2009. Friends of the Divided Mind was an exhibition that addressed institutional frameworks. The show was divided into four projects (entrance & underground, Office of Real Time Activity, Retracing Exhibitions and ULU| contemporary art) which considered: potentialities for the future of exhibition histories; artist-run spaces in London; performative and durational practices; and financially independent art spaces. The 150 page catalogue, designed by Ben Freeman, includes full colour installation images of the exhibition, essays, interviews, a roundtable discussion and an eight page insert by artist Chris Evans. The special catalogue launch price will be £5, afterwards copies can be ordered for £12 from art data at www.artdata.co.uk.
At 8pm a new performance by Dora Garcìa will be presented by Office of Real Time Activity. The 60 minute Zoom, Identification/Projection (2009), is based on a story by J.G.Ballard and is an example of real-time narrative in fiction.
Also being launched on 26 June is the free publication for Performing Localities: Recent Guatemalan Performance Art on Video, a two-day programme of talks and screenings organised by the First Year MA Curating Contemporary Art students at Iniva 5–6 May, 2009.
