The Museum of Modern Art - Call for Papers: New Perspectives on Abstract Expressionism

In conjunction with the exhibition Abstract Expressionist New York, MoMA presents New Perspectives on Abstract Expressionism: A Young Scholars' Panel. International graduate students are encouraged to submit papers uncovering new scholarship, interpretations, approaches, and analysis of Abstract Expressionism. The panel's selection committee members, David Anfam, Michael Leja, Katy Siegel, and Ann Temkin serve as respondents and moderate a discussion among the four selected scholars.

Graduate students working at any level—from MA candidates to ABDs to recent PhDs (within two years of the degree)—are eligible. Candidates should include the following in their applications: Curriculum vitae (maximum two pages), an abstract (maximum five hundred words), and the name of a faculty adviser who will review the final paper and provide support in preparing the presentation. The abstract should be printed in eleven-point font, double-spaced, with margins no smaller than one inch. Papers must be written and presented in English.

Abstracts are due Monday, November 15, 2010. The four selected candidates will be notified by December 1, 2010 . Final papers (maximum length ten pages, eleven-point font, double-spaced, with margins no smaller than one inch) are due February 1, 2011.

Travel, hotel, and per diem expenses will be paid for the selected scholars. Abstracts should be submitted to adultprograms@moma.org.
