On Thursday 16 December 2010 a solo exhibition devoted to the English artist Lesley Foxcroft will open at A arte Studio Invernizzi. On this occasion the artist will present a work specially created for the spaces of the gallery: 6 middle-sized pieces will be displayed upstairs and 9 big works will be presented downstairs.
Using layered M.D.F. (Medium Density Fiberboard) panels, middle-thickness wood fiber material stratified in multiples of 4, the artist concentrates and emphasizes the streight edge of the material, pushed and squeezed in thin layers to express its flexability.
In her works Foxcroft uses the architecture of the gallery - for example a corner is wrapped with M.D.F. - and the floor and the walls are used to take the weight of a piece, making the installation uncomplicated in keeping with the spirit and the essence of the idea.
The colour of the material becomes solid presence and the works interact with the light of the space sending out themselves a diffused and vibrating chromatic brightness.
The works presented in this exhibition further accentuate this aspect of presence, putting themselves as elements that modify the spaces morphologies which they are in dialogue with.
For the exhibition, a two-language catalogue will be published with an introductory essay by Antonella Soldaini, a text by Lesley Foxcroft, the reproduction of the works on display, a poem by Carlo Invernizzi and up-to-date biographical and bibliographical notes.
