Fall 2012 Research Assistantships Now Available.

One of the most attractive features of graduate study in the Imaging and Digital Arts (IMDA) program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is the combination of access to both the wide range of resources available at a mid-size research university as well as the opportunities for exhibition and participation in the vibrant contemporary arts community in nearby Baltimore.

IMDA faculty research in the arts at UMBC spans a variety of practices including performance, cinematic arts, photography, animation, interactivity, sonic arts, and interdisciplinary practices. All Visual Arts faculty at UMBC are practicing artists or writers who exhibit their works both nationally and internationally, including: The Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, The National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., ARS Electronica, SIGGRAPH, Kiasma in Helsinki, Finland, and many other world-class venues. UMBC Visual Arts faculty have also received numerous awards, research grants and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Getty Foundation, National Institute of Health, International Society for Electronic Arts, the Guggenheim Foundation, the Fulbright Program and other prestigious organizations. UMBC is 15 minutes from downtown Baltimore, 45 minutes from Washington, D.C., and three hours from New York City, with Philadelphia in-between.

IMDA Research Assistants work in a number of innovative labs and centers at UMBC, such as The Imaging Research Center (IRC), New Media Studio (NMS), and the Center for Art, Design, and Visual Culture (CADVC).
