Master in Experiments on Arts and Politics (MEAP)
Application deadline: April 5, 2011
Founded by Bruno Latour at Sciences Po (Paris), the Master in Experiments on Arts and Politics (MEAP) is an innovative multidisciplinary program that associates social sciences, the arts and politics.
MEAP will provide students with a theoretical and methodological training led by internationally recognized specialists, grounded in experimentation. Students will be asked to compare, contrast and confront their respective methods, tools and theoretical frameworks by working together on live projects commissioned or requested by actors of the public sphere.
MEAP's pedagogy is based on experimentation and inquiry. It will allow students to devise pragmatic mechanisms using tools developed in combining practices of the arts and social sciences. The objective is to investigate the creation of a problematized public space that is shared and participative, yet still the locus of necessary controversial issues.
Who is this Programme for ?
This master is a post-graduate programme aimed at young international professionals with at least 2 years practical experience. It seeks to recruit academics, social scientists, artists (in the broadest possible meaning, including designers and architects), as well as professionals working in the arts and politics.
About the Program :
MEAP program will be taught over one academic year in the school's dedicated space on Sciences Po's campus, in the heart of Paris.
The curriculum demands significant commitment from students. However it is structured to allow them to pursue other activities simultaneously. Teaching sessions will require, on average, one full day a week and one full week every two months. Course-specific reading and research is to be expected. The project-based element of the course will take place from January onwards and will require additional time commitment.
