The Finnish Academy of Fine Arts is an international fine arts university and the only one of its kind in Finland. It provides high quality education in moving image, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and site and situation specific arts. It is also a pioneer in artistic research. The Academy has been training artist since 1848.

Call for applications: Professor in Contemporary Art and Moving Image
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The qualification criteria for the Professor in Contemporary Art and Moving Image comprises artistic distinction in the field of contemporary art and extensive knowledge of the field of contemporary art and moving image. The following will also be valued: familiarity with the history and theory of moving image, and knowledge of the technological potential of the moving image. The person chosen for the task is required to have good teaching skills.
In evaluating the merits, factors considered will include the scope of competence in the relevant field, teaching experience and pedagogical education, or good teaching skills shown in a teaching demonstration. Experience of university-level teaching in art will be considered a merit. Over and above artistic competence and experience, the person chosen for the post will also be required to have a particular interest in and the will to develop this field and education in it. Successful discharge of the duties of the post will therefore call also for extensive abilities of cooperation. A very good command of the English language is required; a good command of Swedish or Finnish is considered a merit.
PROFESSOR DUTIES
The duties of the Professor will be to provide both theoretical and practice-based teaching and tutoring. The Professor is also expected to follow developments in his or her own field, and develop teaching in this field.
The duties of the Professor in Contemporary Art and Moving Image include in particular the following:
• Provide and develop teaching in contemporary art and moving image
• Carry special responsibility for teaching and tutoring MFA students
• Supervise and examine graduation projects (theses)
• Participate in the joint planning of the curriculum in Time and Space Arts
• Participate in the cooperation between all study programmes and joint studies in the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts
• Pursue independent artistic practice
• Participate in the administration of the Academy (including membership in administrative bodies/committees and the attendant duties, and also in student selection)
• Engage in the cooperation with other universities and higher education institutions
• Follow developments in art and participate in societal interaction and international cooperation
• Other duties belonging to or appointed to the chair
APPLICATION
The application material must be submitted in three copies. The application must include:
- Application statement
- A written account of the applicant's artistic and teaching merits of note that are relevant to the advertised post (max: one A4 page)
- A portfolio presenting the applicant's artistic work, or a key selection of samples from the applicant's artistic practice
- Curriculum Vitae
- List of publications
- Certificate of language skills
All application materials shall be in English in view of international experts employed in the selection. The Finnish Academy of Fine Arts will not have any application materials translated. Applications addressed to the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts shall be delivered to: Finnish Academy of Fine Arts, Kaikukatu 4, 00530 Helsinki, Finland. The applications must arrive at the Academy no later than on 2 May 2011 at 3 pm. Late applications will not be considered. Mark the envelope: 'Professor in Contemporary Art and Moving Image'. Application documents will not be returned by mail. The documents may be collected from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts after the termination of the application process.
