This is a limited availability course in fundraising, with personalized attention for each student and is open to international participants.
Brainard Carey occupies a unique position in the international art world. He is an active working artist with past shows at The Whitney Biennial, Slovenian Biennial, Reina Sofia Museum, MOMA and more, he is also an educator, author and professional fund-raiser.
Of special note is that he raised over 16K this past summer with a personal fundraiser on kickstarter.
By registering for this course, you will get information every week in a cumulative manner on using platforms like kickstarter and others for raising funds. At the end of the course in 7 weeks, you will have a firm understanding of the platforms and will be starting a project of your own right away or in the near future since you will have all you need to launch one. This is for individuals as well as institutions.
You will also get the personal support of Brainard Carey. During the 7 week course period, he will be available to you by email to personally answer questions about your coursework and anything else related to it.
Brainard Carey Co-founder and Director of The Artworld Demystified, has been advising artists on all matters related to business, marketing and exhibitions for over 20 years. Considered a specialist in the field of professional practice for all types of artists, Carey has presented teleseminars and lectured on career management skills and also served as director and founder of a gallery and art magazine. He has a forthcoming book in the fall published by Allworth Press on career management in the art world.
Building a custom solid plan for the artist to develop their careers, is his specialty, and his consultations are similar to a post-graduate work in how to manage the art world.
Galleries and institutions have used Carey to raise funds for projects and to develop their audiences.
He has a Yale University radio show that regularly interviews artists and curators from around the world. Some of the people he has interviewed are Dean DeDearko, Laura Hoptman, Shamim Momin, David Ross, Arthur Danto, John Currin, Christo, Rirkrit Tyravanija, and many others.
By using his ability and interest in the international art world, he helps others to focus their ideas. He creates ways of reaching out to the world with the latest tools of social networking as well as traditional meetings and presentations.
He also writes letters, statements, grants and press releases for artists, galleries and museums to get more attention in print and on the web.
Brainard Carey is based in New York City, but works all over the world by phone and in person.
