The two-part festival 'Test' finalizes the project 'Various Stages - Bedingte Bühnen'. At Kunsthaus Dresden – Municipal Gallery for Contemporary Art, the first part 'Test Run' will take place from the 12 - 14 October, 2012. 'Testing (Re-)Production' will be carried through from 11 – 13 January, 2013 at MS | Muzeum Sztuki in Łodz, Poland. Laying its focus on theatricality, 'Test Run' will take place in the exhibition 'Settings', in the courtyard and on the Kunsthaus' square. The festival in Łodz will examine the architecture and the history of the museum. Subject of both "Test Run" and "Testing (Re-)Production" is performativity of contemporary artistic practice. Their programs comprise performance, dance, reading, initiative, food performance, film screening and a roundtable.

Some of the performances in 'Test Run' are developed especially for works shown in 'Settings' and will be expanded performatively at Kunsthaus Dresden. This way, the modes of showing (in) an exhibition and (during) a performance are being interlaced. On a theoretical level, the festival primarily seizes the process of rehearsing and testing. On the level of presentation, the format of the event is central. Referencing one another, the inherent staging conditions of the different formats exhibition, salon and festival are put into a thematic focus.

Invited theoreticians, performers, artists and filmmakers no longer create and debate an index for an 'external artistic reality'. Dealing with the art-innate of the medium and the format, they reflect on its respective forms of production, and its methods of showing.
