MINI/Goethe-Institut Curatorial Residencies Ludlow 38 is pleased to announce the release of Compilation of Translations: One Year at Ludlow 38, edited by Clara Meister and published by Sternberg Press. Please join us for the book launch on December 13, 6:30–8pm, at the Goethe-Institut New York.

The publication gives an overview of the 2012 curatorial year at MINI/Goethe-Institut Curatorial Residencies Ludlow 38. Curator Clara Meister's residency focused on different concepts of translation, bringing together an interdisciplinary exhibition program based on the assumption that artistic ideas can be translated into disparate forms and can therefore take varying modes of expression. Four solo exhibitions with Natalie Czech, Bo Christian Larsson, Saâdane Afif, and Maria Loboda, as well as a collaborative project with A Dog Republic (Jean-Baptiste Decavèle, Nico Dockx, Yona Friedman, Helena Sidiropoulos, Krist Torfs) were accompanied by small poster publications, which constitute the individual chapters of the book. Writers, artists, and thinkers were invited to playfully contribute essays that were either a source of inspiration for the exhibition or else linked to its ideas. The individual publications as well as their compilation were conceived in close collaboration with Berlin-based graphic designer Quentin Walesch.

The publication includes new texts by Andrew Berardini, Jean-Baptiste Decavèle, Isobel Harbison, Lucy Ives, Graham Parker, Barry Schwabsky, Helena Sidiropoulos, Antje Stahl, and Paul Stephens, all commissioned by Clara Meister, as well as interviews with Bo Christian Larsson, some of the members of A Dog Republic, and Maria Loboda.

Ludlow 38 is the contemporary art space of the Goethe-Institut New York. The MINI/Goethe-Institut Curatorial Residencies Ludlow 38 program was launched in 2011 and marks the continuation of the partnership between the Goethe-Institut New York and MINI at this location since 2008. Now entering its third year, it gives young curators from Germany the opportunity to develop and implement a one-year exhibition and event program at Ludlow 38.

Jakob Schillinger is the 2013 MINI/Goethe-Institut Curatorial Resident at Ludlow 38. His curatorial year will start with an exhibition by Peter Wächtler, opening on January 20, 3–6pm.
