At Boompjes 60-68 ToonZaal Foundation presents you the exhibition: Breekbaar LichaamM / Vulnerable BodyM. The show, curated by Robin Kolleman, hosts Charley Case (BE), Dirk Hendrix (BE) and Ronald Bal (NL), three male visual artists, who use the human body as core subject in their work. Central themes in their work are dualism, existentialism, the relationship between man and nature and between man and its city environment. 'Breekbaar LichaamM' will be an interesting search for the base of our existence, for spirituality and for the role of our body in this digital era.
Last year, curator Robin Kolleman made during Art Rotterdam the exhibition Fragile Body along with three female artists who work from their body: Karin Arink, Sara Bomans and Marie Christine Berk. This year she went out searching for three men on the same theme. In her quest to the artists she discovered that Male nude performers are to find very difficult and that their nudity is much less accepted than that of women. Maybe because they are with their bodies more expressive, more down-to-Earth and more spectacular? Apparently we are still not allowed to enjoy in all freedom of a men's body in an art object or a performance.
During the Rotterdam Gallery Tour on Saturday 11 th. of February, which is also organized by ToonZaal on Saturday 11 February 2012 there is a special evening programme that starts with a performance by Ronald Bal a.o. at ToonZaal, Boompjes 60-68, 20.30 hrs.
