16 July - 25 August 2012
Two courses in photography
The primary aim of Katharina Sieverding's course is, on a macrosocial level, intensive discussion of the cultural, social and medial positioning of artistic image productions. On a microsocial level, the focus is on the process of finding the potential of each participant, encouraging individual methods of work and articulation, and providing theoretical and practical support for creative development. Assistants Frank Bartsch, Bodo Schlack (both Berlin University of the Arts) and Orson Sieverding (Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design) will provide the participants with experimental and conceptual support in the analogue and digital laboratories
Duration: 6 – 25 August 2012

The course with Jo Ractliffe, Not a thousand words: photography and narrative, explores photography's spaces of slippage – between real and imaginary, fact and fiction, truth and lie. Much of the course will focus on the tension between photography's documentary status and its fictive capacities, especially with regard to its evocative and associative potentials in narrative construction.
Participants will work as a group on a 'cut-up' storyboard project, as well as individually on their own projects, exploring a range of visual modes and forms, image/text relations and narrative strategies.
Duration: 16 July – 4 August 2012

Costs: € 840.- (red. € 600.-)
