REGIONALE12 in Murau - upcoming weekend: 'Youth/Mobility/City' (July 06-08, 2012)

REGIONALE12 is a young Styrian Biennial for Contemporary Art, which discusses the potentiality of the peripheria and spacial structures outside the centres. This year REGIONALE takes place in the district of Murau from 22nd of June to 22nd of July: A timber region, which suffers from demographic decrease. REGIONALE12 focusses on the present and a potential future by taking a deeper look into the 3 leitmotifs „Youth/Mobility/City', „Living Together/Working Together' and „Nature/Sustainability'.

A picturesque historic town center, characteristic timber balconies, and gardens along the river Mur - Murau is the capital of the district. Here, much comes together - as an administrative capital, a school city, and regional center - and much goes away at the same time. As is the case in many other European cities, one is noticeably confronted with new urban realities in Murau. Hence REGIONALE12 poses the question: Where and how does social public life currently take place? The urban realm plays a significant role, and likewise the nucleus of demographic developments - the youth. Where do they find their place? What options do the youth have when they stay in Murau? Listening. Meeting. Staying. Remembering. Replacing. Exemplifying. These are the main themes in Murau which will be highlighted between July 6 to 8 on podiums, in performances, through tours, and in spectacular games with fire.

On that weekend a program of various performances, tours and discussions will take place: MurBazaar by Eko Prawoto and the Festival Center by Fattinger/Orso at the Main Square, which claims for four weeks „CARFREE', will be meeting places for debates, for mini golf or ping pong, or become a bazaar for trading, vending, exchanging and sharing. Gerriet K. Sharma offers a poetic and performative expedition on the problem of the vacancies of the shrinking town. And Jeppe Hein crosses borders within the concept of public-private. Young people will initiate „break the flames' in order to reclaim public space and express their needs.

REGIONALE12 welcomes visitors to enjoy a critical as well as a joyfull weekend on the notions of „Youth/Mobility/City'.
