'Did Fluxus change the world/Hat Fluxus die Welt verändert?' –
This question is posed by the Wiesbaden Fluxus artist of the hour, Benjamin Patterson, to a worldwide audience via an online survey, which is available in English and German.
An introduction and brief definitions begin the survey and after a few clicks the survey user is asked the crucial question: whether or not the avant-garde Fluxus movement (which developed in the 1960s and through artistic intervention radicalized the 'everyday' and claimed to change the world) achieved their goal.
Survey takers are given multiple possibilities to answer the question and they are allowed to post their own comments as well. The survey results are available online and are constantly updated.
The online survey brings the Fluxus movement full circle. 50 years ago, in 1962, the 'Festival of Newest Musicl' was held in Wiesbaden and brought worldwide attention to the Fluxus movement. Now, Benjamin Patterson gives the world a chance to discuss the impact of Fluxus during the past 50 years. Patterson's choice to employ the Internet for the cause was an artistic one: representing two basic ideas of Fluxus, the Internet symbolizes technological progress and the importance of communication and interdependency of each.
'Did Fluxus change the world/Hat Fluxus die Welt verändert?'
Designed by Benjamin Patterson and programmed by the Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden. The survey collects data anonymously and is available worldwide from any computer with internet access. In addition, the survey is available on specially prepared computers for 'Benjamin Patterson: Born in the State of FLUX/us' (on show until September 23rd, 2012) at the Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden and 'Fluxus Pavilion' in front of the Museum Wiesbaden visitors.
