Merging the formats of exhibition and festival; a series of artworks will temporarily transform Limerick's Milk Market into a unique and temporary platform where an evening of performances, readings and screenings will unfold. Responding to The Milk Market's membrane canopy, Gracelands will include a number of fabric-based sculptural works, some of which are incorporated into performative works.

The theme and title of Gracelands 2012 is Circling the Square, and the event will use the geometric shapes of a circle and square as starting points. The exhibition-event will consider the square as a central meeting point, the site of social exchange and civic or political gathering, as well as a site for the display and exchange of produce, artifacts and 'effects'.

Gracelands curator, Vaari Claffey says:
'By taking over a site designed for another function, Gracelands inserts itself into an existing situation, layering the conventions of both. By re-configuring the furnishings and equipment, the display systems for the market square begin to mimic those of a museum. The inclusion of replicas of works from the Van Abbemuseum [Eindhoven] and the performance programme result in a focus on the process of unmaking and remaking which reveals some of the very specific choreography and management of people, space and artworks'.

Gracelands is part of eva International - After the Future, curated by Annie Fletcher, curator of exhibition at the Van Abbemueum, Eindhoven. eva International exhibitions continue across Limerick City until Sunday 12 August. See www.eva.ie for further information.
