601Artspace: Jennifer & Kevin McCoy

601Artspace is pleased to host a book presentation by Jennifer and Kevin McCoy. Installation View documents the eponymous exhibition curated by the McCoys, which appeared simultaneously at 601Artspace, New York City, and Collectorspace, Istanbul from September 2011 to January 2012. Based on the McCoys' long-standing engagement with film and video, Installation View was an intervention into 601's affiliated collection via live public broadcast, revealing works of contemporary art in-situ: in private spaces such as a home, storage space, and garden. Playing off Louise Lawler's ongoing practice of capturing art behind the scenes, the McCoys projected images from a network of live-feed cameras in order to observe the natural habitats of art. The objects in the exhibition included works by William Eggleston, Fischli & Weiss, Susan Hamburger, Louise Lawler, Abelardo Morell, Gabriel Orozco, Richard Serra, Steven Shore, Thomas Struth, Hiroshi Sugimoto, and Jeff Wall.



Two more weeks to visit current exhibition Open::Closed, curated by David Howe. The show ends September 29, 2012.

Installation View is a 56-page color-print publication designed by Tattfoo Tan with essays by artist James Cullinane, curator Chen Tamir, and a conversation between artist Merve Ünsal and Özge Ersoy (Collectorspace). The book launch will start with a brief presentation, followed by a reception. A complimentary publication will be made available to all guests.

About the Artists:

The McCoys have been artistic collaborators since 1990. Together they have made a wide range of film, video, installation, and performance works. Their joint projects have been shown in numerous exhibitions throughout North America and Europe including SITE Santa Fe Biennial–The Dissolve, Santa Fe, NM, 2010; Automatic Update, Museum of Modern Art, New York, 2007; Soft Rains, FACT Liverpool, UK, 2003. Recent solo exhibitions include: Abu Dhabi Is Love Forever, Postmasters Gallery, New York, 2011; Soft Rains #6: Suburban Horrors, Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto Film Festival, Toronto, Canada, 2010; Constant World, Beall Center for Art + Technology, University of California, Irvine, CA, 2008; Tiny, Funny, Big and Sad, British Film Institute Galleries Southbank, London, UK, 2007.
