For the first time in more than a decade, Aperture magazine is being reconceived and redesigned. The new Aperture will have more pages, smart new columns, and will continue to feature beautifully reproduced portfolios and insightful writing on the key ideas in photography today. All things you'd expect from Aperture, delivered in an exciting new package.
The Spring 2013 issue of Aperture relaunches the magazine under the title 'Hello, Photography,' a playful nod to Daido Moriyama's seminal project Bye, Bye Photography. Now divided into two distinct sections, 'Words' and 'Pictures,' the issue offers a broad survey of key issues for photography today.
The new 'Words section brings readers the sharpest idea in photography by Charlotte Cotton, Geoffrey Batchen, Arthur Ou, and Robin Kesley. Plus conversations between Jeff Wall and Lucas Blalock, Mark Westmoreland and Akram Zaatari, and Virginia Rutledge and Penelope Umbrico.
'Pictures' is the magazine's superbly printed new visual showcase. Featured for Spring portfolios from the Garry Winogrand Archive, with curator Leo Rubinfien explaining his new edit to photographer Philip-Lorca diCorcia; Jason Evans; Michele Abeles; Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin; a dispatch from Magnum's latest road trip with Alec Soth, Zoe Strauss, Jim Goldberg, and Mikhael Subotzki; Christopher Williams; Phil Chang and James Welling; and more.
