MARKET ZONE
Interdisciplinary and cross-border workshop in the public space,
on the theme of the markets
Nice, France / Cuneo, Italy – 2013 > 2014

DEL'ART (Nice, France) and Art.ur (Cuneo, Italy) are two art organisations dedicated to showing art in public spaces.
They are launching Market Zone, an artistic itinerant workshop of interdisciplinary research and in situ interventions, that will take place in the market of Piazza Galimberti and Piazza Seminario in Cuneo and the Marché de la Libération in Nice.

Market Zone will run over a two years period from 2013 to 2014 and will support 12 participants with specific interests in art, design and graphic design. It is open to various disciplines: visual arts, design, graphic design, architecture, urban planning, scenography and research within the fields of history, anthropology and sociology etc.

Market Zone is led by the curators Claire Migraine (thankyouforcoming.net) and Michela Sacchetto, and the representatives of the organisations DEL'ART and Art.ur, Florence Forterre and Michela Giuggia.

The project Market Zone intends to unite different fields involved in markets, resulting in the display of artistic proposals in public spaces. Besides their commercial role, markets bring into question various current fundamental issues such as the environment, the ecology, territorial specificities, the supply chain, urban planning, social and cultural integration, and models of consumption and recycling.

Market Zone involves a series of activities: an interdisciplinary workshop and a series of conferences in both cities, in autumn 2013 in Cuneo and in Nice, and public presentations and an touring exhibition, in 2014, in the two markets and in nearby locations, as well as the publication of a bilingual catalogue gathering all the research developed during the project.

To apply to Market Zone, applicants must:
- be native of and/or work in Europe
- be under 41 this year
- be involved into a professional life and prove for former artworks
- be fully available and live in Cuneo in Octobre 2013 and in Nice in November 2013 (about a week), during the time of the workshop, and be present during the exhibitions' installing in September 2014 in Nice and October 2014 in Cuneo
- a high level of Italian or French is required, knowledge of English is recommended
