Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2014.
The Department of Visual Arts within the Division of Arts and Humanities at UC San Diego visarts.ucsd.edu is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. The Department seeks a film and media historian or theorist. All research specializations will be considered but we particularly welcome a demonstrated interest in the relation of film and media to other art practices of the 20th and 21st centuries, and/or an engagement with the contemporary new media landscape. The candidate will be responsible for developing and teaching large undergraduate lecture courses on the history of film and media, undergraduate classes for majors in art history and media studies, and graduate seminars for an innovative Ph.D program in art history which includes a concentration in art practice and also enrolls MFA students in its courses. Faculty in all areas of our department are expected to serve both the MFA and Ph.D programs by giving critiques, supervising independent studies, and serving on graduate committees. The department offers B.A., M.F.A., and Ph.D degrees. Teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels is expected. Candidate should have a record of excellence in research and teaching. Ph.D. (or close to completion) required.

Rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience based on UC pay scales.
