Experiments in the Fault Zone explores the innovative history of the fine arts at Mills College from the 1930s to the present. Featuring important artwork, film presentations, and archival photographs, recordings and ephemera, this exhibition is the first museum examination of the extraordinary legacy of artistic innovation that continues to place Mills at the forefront of advances in contemporary dance, music, intermedia and visual arts.
Showcasing rarely seen materials from the collection and archives of the Mills College Art Museum, the Dance and Music departments, and the Mills Special Collections, the exhibition highlights visionaries such as Marian Van Tuyl, John Cage, Henry Cowell, Lou Harrison, László Moholy-Nagy, Fernand Léger, Darius Milhaud, Rebecca Fuller, Pauline Oliveros, David Behrman, Jay DeFeo, Antonio Prieto, and Ron Nagle among many others.
Experiments in the Fault Zone will be on view from September 25- December 8, 2013.
