MUSEUM OFF MUSEUM – PART TWO
With contributions by: Özlem Altin, Isabelle Cornaro, Jeremy Deller & Bruce Lacey and Simon Fujiwara
UNTIL JANUARY 26, 2014
Until January 26, 2014 the Bielefelder Kunstverein presents the two-part exhibition »Museum Off Museum«. After contributions to the exhibition by Kader Attia, Camille Henrot as well as Slavs and Tatars, the second part further investigates the interest among artists in the »museum« as a concept for reflection. The two exhibition periods are accompanied and thematically contextualised by artistic and scientific lectures, workshops and an exhibition blog by artists, curators and scholars, which will culminate in a comprehensive publication in spring 2014.
Exhibition funded by: Stiftung Kunstfonds, Kunststiftung NRW, Stadtwerke Bielefeld Stiftung, Hörmann KG
KATARINA ZDJELAR
Towards a Further Word
FEBRUARY 08 – APRIL 27, 2014
Katarina Zdjelar's artistic practice consists of videos, sound works, books as well as curated exhibitions. Her works involve embodied responses to historical and geo-political constraints placed on individual or collective desires. She explores the cultural abstraction of familiar codes, the effects of translation as well as the socio-political and economic overtone of a musical score. Furthermore Zdjelar investigates in the becoming physical of spoken words, the voice as an actant and the act of speaking within and without a defined group or community. The Bielefelder Kunstverein is mounting the artist´s first institutional solo exhibition in Germany.
Exhibition funded by: Mondriaan Fund
LUISE SCHRÖDER
Figures of Remembrance
FEBRUARY 08 – APRIL 27, 2014
In her photographic works, videos, publications and mediation formats Luise Schröder takes up the intrumentalisation of the past for the politics of the present as well as the continuation of historical myths and their meaning for identities and communities. Here, national cultures of remembering, together with their ritual character and iconography are central to her investigations. Through her own pictures, the artist sets up against political myths and their reproduction a critical stance on history and the culture of remembrance. The Bielefelder Kunstverein will present the artist´s first solo exhibition in an institutional context.
MICHAEL BEUTLER
MAY 10 – JULY 27, 2014
The Bielefelder Kunstverein is devoting a comprehensive survey exhibition to the artwork of Michael Beutler, who has become internationally known for his expansive bricolage installations. In his works, Beutler reacts primarily to the social and architectural structures of the respective exhibition situation, which is used as a location for production and presentation at one and the same time. The Bielefeld exhibition offers the first insight since 2002 into the various contexts and development processes of his projects. And in addition to this, exhibiting sculpture, the possibilities of artistic documentation and the communication of ephemeral projects will be investigated.
VOR ORT
An Art Project in Sennestadt
MAY 25 – OCTOBER 19, 2014
International artists will devise and implement new works in the public space of the Sennestadt district in Bielefeld. Sennestadt was an ambitious urban planning project of the 1950s and attracted worldwide attention. The plan by the architect, Prof. Bernhard Reichow, was based on ideas of a humane and an »organic art of urban planning«. The projects deal with both the history and the current situation of the urban district. The exhibition project uses the example of Sennestadt's urban development to pose questions about the current relationship of art, the city and the public sphere.
Exhibition in collaboration with: 800 Jahre Stadt Bielefeld, Sennestadtverein e.V.
BIELEFELD CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary Art from Private Collections in Bielefeld
SEPTEMBER 14 – NOVEMBER 16, 2014
The exhibition »Bielefeld Contemporary« is a collection of collections, with its focus on an individual approach to art. It is opening up a temporary space of experience derived from cultural history and on showing hitherto unknown items while highlighting the display process itself. And equally, the project offers an exemplary insight into the great passion of collecting and into Bielefeld´s cultural resources.
