FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Saturday, October 25, 2014 from 2-3 PM
Kent Fine Art is pleased to announce STAND AND, a performance by Gordon Hall, to take place on Saturday October 25th, from 2-3 pm, at the handball courts in Chelsea Park on 28th St. between 9th and 10th Ave., in Manhattan.
In conjunction with FLEX, a group exhibition that explores the critical status of the body, gender, and sexuality in relation to post-Minimalism, STAND AND temporarily relocates and activates Hall's sculpture outside of the gallery to be moved and used. Performing with Hall will be a group artists, writers, and curators with whom Hall has a variety of personal and professional bonds, including Millie Kapp, Chris Domenick, Andrew Kachel, Ariel Goldberg, Colin Self, and FLEX curator Orlando Tirado.
Lasting approximately 60 minutes, the performance will explore a series of independent and collective actions including walking, standing, symmetrical and asymmetrical formations, moving the objects, leaning frontwards and backwards, against the court wall, the shapes, and one another. The performance is an orchestration between choreography and improvisation, with room for experimentation within an unfolding set of movement possibilities and limitations. The sculpture becomes an object of use towards a variety of social, spatial, and gravitational ends. Viewers are welcome to arrive anytime and depart anytime within the hour and move around the space during the performance.
Gordon Hall is an artist based in New York. Recent and concurrent exhibitions include Foxy Production, The Brooklyn Museum, Night Club (Chicago), and an upcoming exhibition at Chapter (NY) with Math Bass and Lauren Davis Fisher. Hall is the director of the Center for Experimental Lectures, an ongoing curated series of lecture-performances most recently hosted by The Whitney Museum of American Art during the 2014 Biennial. More information about Gordon Hall can be found at www.gordonhall.net
FLEX will be on view until October 31. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10-6. More information, as well as a download link for the full exhibition catalog can be found at www.kentfineart.net
