Eksperimenta! opens exhibition in Tallinn
The international youth contemporary art triennial Eksperimenta! with the topic 'Art and Science' opens the main exhibition in Tallinn's medieval old town tomorrow.
Eksperimenta!s artworks by young artists aged 14 to 19 from 10 countries will be exhibited in Tallinn's oldest church – St. Catherine's and in the medieval merchant's house Hopner House on the Town Hall Square from the 23rd October to 23rd November.
The director of the triennial, Annely Köster is impressed with the high artistic quality of the artworks: 'The pupils and curators have shown dedicated depth in their research of this year's topic Art and Science, amazing creativity in the artistic interpretation and also meticulous technical skills. I strongly recommend the international contemporary art circles to come and have a look and spot some future talents here.'
Young artists from Estonia, Latvia, Finland, Russia, Germany, Slovenia, Portugal, Turkey, Canada and Brazil have been preparing for the exhibition since over a year, researching their subjects with scientific methods, reaching from molecular biology, physics, sustainability, technology, semiotics, social ecology and many others. The preparations included nationwide workshops and competitions in the participating countries involving more than 6000 high-school students.
Eksperimenta! is the biggest international youth contemporary art event that aims to give the high-school level students an experience of a professional international arts event with feed-back from high level critics and curators as well as to initiate sustainable changes in (art) education. The art education conference Eduko IDEAlaboratory on 24th and 25th October will focus on integrating contemporary art and science.
Eksperimenta! 2014 'Art and Science' 23. October to 23. November in St. Catherine's Church and Hopner House, open Tue to Sun 11-18.
