Bemis Center Old Market Live-Work Studio Residencies

At the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, we create transformative opportunities for our Artists-in-Residence to explore and realize their most important ideas by providing: access to a supportive and rigorous intellectual community, robust opportunities for studio and social practice, generous live/work space, an abundance of time, extensive technical assistance and financial support.

For more than 30 years, the Bemis Center has supported artists through its Old Market residency program at its 110,000-square-foot main campus located in downtown Omaha's historic Old Market neighborhood. These residencies provide artists from around the world with long-term opportunities to focus on their practice and to engage in critical dialogue with the Bemis Center community. The Bemis Center provides Artists-in-Residence with community engagement opportunities, unmatched staff support, and regular access to artist assistants and interns.

Artists-in-Residence enjoy a generous live/work studio for up to three months, complete with a private kitchen and bathroom. The Old Market campus, offers 24-hour access to extensive installation spaces and production facilities, and can accommodate a broad range of artistic activity, including conceptual, material, performative and social practices. Residents also receive a $750 monthly stipend to help with materials, supplies, and living expenses while in residency.

Application Fee:
A non-refundable application fee of $40(US) is required with each application. Payment is due at the time you submit your application electronically.

Application Requirements:
1. Name of Applicant and Contact information
2. Current C.V.
3. A brief description (500 word max.) of what you would like to work on while at the Bemis Center and why the Bemis Center, and Omaha, are the ideal environment for your project or research. (Projects do not need to be outcome focused.)
4. Two references
5. 10 Work Samples (Audio and video samples are accepted per formats outlined by Slideroom.)

Selection Process:
A selection panel will choose up to 18 artists into our program for the following year. Applicants are selected based on their portfolio of work, as well as written materials supplied in the application.

Notifications:
SlideRoom will confirm receipt of your submitted application.

Notifications to all applicants will be sent via email after the selection panel has made its final decisions. Dates for these notifications will be posted on our website immediately following each deadline.
