The School of the Arts is pleased to announce two funded PhD studentships. We offer the PhD as a pure theory degree, examined by the thesis only, or as practice-based research, examined by a thesis and evidence of practice.
The School of the Arts has a well-established international research culture that supports excellence and innovation through practice, history and theory. We currently house five research groups and four journals, which host symposia, exhibitions and events on a regular basis. www.lboro.ac.uk/departments/sota/research/research-groups/
Specialist areas of high quality research include: Contemporary Art and Design History; Feminist Art History, Theory and Practice; Animation and Film Studies; Service Design; Art, Radical Politics and Socially-Engaged Practices; Art and Publics; Woven and Non-woven Textiles; Drawing and Visualisation with the School hosting the well-established and highly influential Drawing Research Network.
We encourage research projects that have the potential to make a substantive contribution to these academic disciplines through the rigorous application of existing methods, as well as projects that reflect on practice within and across discipline boundaries and those that explore methodological approaches.
We particularly welcome proposals that focus on sexual politics in its broadest sense, lens based media, and thinking and making through three-dimensions.
For more information on application process and guidelines for the proposal, please contact:
