Performance Art Bergen (PAB) is happy to inform that the international performance art festival Between Sky & Sea will take place Saturday 30th of August 2014. The festival is based out door, meaning the artworks of 13 artists will be presented to the audience in the landscape of Herdla, Norway. This year they are located at former military area Herdla Fort above Valen (former German military airport).
The artists are gathered for a week having the opportunity to work within the environment of the site. This year's festival is titled GIVEN PLACE. The phrase is inspired by the work of professor in literature Anniken Greve at the University of Tromsø. In her article COMMUNITY AND PLACE Greve is discussing some interesting aspects of place through the phrases GIVEN PLACE, MADE PLACE and LIVED PLACE using Aristotle's' philosophy and Irish poet Seamus Heaney in her argumentation/explanation.

This year we are collaborating with Polish In Situ Foundation. In Situ is running CONTEXTS: Festival of Ephemeral Arts in Sokolovsko, Poland.
Both our sites, Sokolovsko (a beautiful village and former spa resort south-west in Poland) and Herdla, are loaded places, both when it comes to nature and culture, old and new history.
Between Sea & Sky will focus on performance art in the specific landscape of Herdla. It is important for us to make a platform for the artists to develop new site-specific works for the festival day.
This years artists are:
Maurice Blok (NL), Terese Longva + Laurel J. Carpenter (N and USA) Benedicte Clementsen (N), Sandra Johnston (UK/N-Irland), Jolanta Krukowska (PL), Karen Kipphoff (N/DE), Richard Lauder (N/UK), Jan Mioduszewski (PL), Sigmund Skard (N), Paulina Zielińska (PL), Koji Kamoji + Zygmunt Piotrowski aka Noah Warsaw (J and PL)

BETWEEN SKY & SEA was first arranged in 2005 in collaboration with Lyngheisenteret at the island Lygra north of Bergen, Norway.
Organizers were Robert Alda, Kurt Johannessen and Rita Marhaug, who founded Performance Art Bergen in 2011.
The main idea for the first and also later festivals was to gather a group of artists to work in a specific outdoor environment for a week to be showed in public during one festival day. After the first festival the two next ones took place at Herdla, also an island north of Bergen, this time in collaboration with Herdla Museum and the municipal of Askøy.
The concept BETWEEN SKY & SEA is today owned and organized by Performance Art Bergen (PAB).
