The Salzburg International Summer Academy offers two courses in photography, with Canadian media artist Jayce Salloum, winner of the 2014 Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts, and Tobias Zielony, who is participating in the German Pavilion / La Biennale di Venezia 2015, as well as one course in analogue film-making with the artist duo cinéma copains (Arne Hector / Minze Tummescheit).
The Summer Academy welcomes your application to participate in one of these or 18 further courses. Application deadline is 15 May 2015.
The aim of Jayce Salloum's course is to develop participants' skills in making and reading pictures and bodies of work. The students will learn to decipher representation and the relationship of their production to their position as global beings in relation to the local. They will delve into the depths of their practice to analyse their position as social and cultural agents.
Duration: 20 July–1 August 2015
Fee: € 680.- (reduced: € 520.-)
Details
In Tobias Zielony's course, Migration, participants will take photographs in Salzburg of people who are arriving or departing, or who have come to stay. They may be refugees, or perhaps immigrants who have lived in Salzburg for a long time. What cultural background, what experiences do they bring with them? How do they contribute to shaping the town? What does their presence in Salzburg tell us about global developments and conflicts? And finally, how can these processes and observations be captured using the resources of photography?
Duration: 3–15 August 2015
Fee: € 680.- (reduced: € 520.-)
Details
The course directed by cinéma copains focuses on the specifics of working with analogue film. For over a century, the moving celluloid picture was the basis of cinema and of ideas about film. While the film industry is departing from its original medium, we are once again taking the material itself in hand. In an age characterised by digital speed, the limitations of analogue technique, the specific temporality of the medium and the waywardness of the material enhance the creative process.
Duration: 17–29 August 2015
Fee: € 680.- (reduced: € 520.-)
