'Discovery' and 'exploration' are the bywords that define Art Paris Art Fair 2015. From 26th to 29th March, the 17th edition brings together 145 galleries from some 20 countries, including for the first time, Morocco, Romania, Turkey and Singapore.
Singapore and Southeast Asia are guests of honour for the 2015 Art Paris Art Fair edition. Directed by Iola Lenzi, a curator, researcher and Southeast Asia specialist, this invitation will put the spotlight on an increasingly important and thriving art scene.
Eight Singaporean galleries including Art Plural Gallery, Chan Hampe Galleries, Element Art Space, iPreciation, STPI, Sundaram Tagore Gallery and Yeo Workshop, as well as a number of galleries from the General Sector will present the diversity of talent from Cambodia, Burma, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore.
A talk in English 'Singapore and Southeast Asia: Art and Institutions Today' on Thursday 26th March from 2:30pm to 4:30pm and a programme of video screenings will complement this presentation. On the occasion of the launch of the 'Singapour en France Festival' celebrating the city state's 50th jubilee , Singaporean artist Hua kuan Sai will create a monumental installation entitled 'Ling Ting No2' (Listening), on display at the entrance of the Grand Palais.
The art scenes of Singapore and Southeast Asia will have pride of place in the French capital with an exceptional series of events in key locations: at the Palais de Tokyo, the exhibition Secret Archipelago (27 March–18 May 2015) explores the regional art scene with Singapore as a springboard. As part of its Satellite programme, the Jeu de Paume will be screening the work Monologue by Cambodia's Vandy Rattana.
Building on the 'Promises' sector dedicated to talented young galleries, the 'ArtDesign' platform that explores the links between design and contemporary art and the 'Art books bookshop,' the fair is innovating again this year with the introduction of a 'Solo Show' section. Some 35 personal exhibitions dotted throughout the fair will enable visitors to discover or re-discover the work of modern, contemporary or emerging artists.
In another innovation, Art Paris Art Fair this year offers its estimated 58,000 visitors a projection of monumental video works on the façade of the Grand Palais every night for the duration of the fair.
The 'Springtime in Paris' VIP programme developed for collectors and art professionals highlights the exceptional revival of the Paris art scene with the new architecture and art spaces that are shaping 21st Century Paris.
With large number of events such as screenings, book-signings and talks and a decidedly international dimension, Art Paris Art Fair is more than ever a modern and contemporary art fair that is in tune with the world.
The 'Singapore and Southeast Asia Guests of Honour's platform is supported by the Art Galleries Association Singapore (AGAS), a partner event of « Singapour en France – Le Festival ».
The event « Singapour en France-le festival » (26th March -30th June 2015, www.singapour-lefestival.com) is presented by Institut français, the National Heritage Board (Singapore) and the National Arts Council (Singapore), and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development (France), Ministry of Culture and Communication (France), the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (Singapore) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Singapore) to celebrate 50 years of Singapore-France diplomatic relations and Singapore's Golden Jubilee.
