Up to two permanent full-time posts as Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in 3 D Modelling/Animation and Digital Art at Hedmark University College, Faculty of Education & Natural Sciences, is vacant from 1 August 2015

At Hedmark University College, Faculty of Education & Natural Sciences (LUNA) there are permanent vacancies in up to two permanent posts in 3 D Modelling/Animation and Digital Art from 1 August 2015, with their offices located at Campus Hamar.

Hedmark University College
The college is organised in 4 faculties: the Faculty of Education & Natural Sciences, located in Hamar; the Faculty of Business Administration, at Rena; the Faculty of Public Health at Elverum, and the Faculty of Applied Ecology and Agricultural Sciences at Evenstad. Each faculty is led by a Dean. The college’s main administration is located in Elverum. There are approx. 6 400 enrolled students and approx. 520 employees at Hedmark University College.

The Faculty
The Faculty of Education & Natural Sciences has a staff of approx. 180 in academic and administrative positions and approx. 2 300 students. The faculty is located in Hamar. It offers teacher and pre-school teacher training, practical-pedagogical education and bachelor degree programmes, including Game Technology and Simulation. There are currently four Master’s programmes and one PhD programme in Teaching and Teacher Education.

The faculty is organised in four departments: the Department of Natural Sciences and Technology, the Department of Humanities, the Department of Social Sciences, and the Department of Fine Arts and Computer Studies, each with its own Head of Department.

About the Department and the Academic Unit

Today the Department of Fine Arts and Computer Studies has academic communities in Game Technology and Simulation, Animation and Digital Art, Pedagogical Use of Digital Media, Physical Education and Movement Subjects, Arts and Crafts, Music and Drama. The Department provides research and teaching for the Pre-School Teacher Education Programme, the Primary and Lower Secondary Teacher Education Programme, the 1-year programme in Pedagogical Theory and Practice (PPU), master’s degree programmes and PhD programmes in professional Teacher Education Programmes. The Department has a staff of 36 in addition to part-time teachers engaged on contract.

The academic community in Digital Art and Interactive Media is an important area for the Department. This unit currently offers three bachelor’s degree programmes: the Bachelor’s Degree in Game Technology and Simulation, the Bachelor’s Degree in Animation and the Bachelor’s Degree in Virtual Art and Design. From the autumn of 2015 the BA programme in Animation and the BA programme in Virtual Art and Design will merge to form a BA in Animation and Digital Art. There are just over 200 students engaged in these study programmes. Together the study programmes form a comprehensive unit that makes it possible to develop more extensive productions based on the combined cross-disciplinary competence. Computer games are a regional priority area and several computer games companies have started up in Hamar, most of them with a background from studies at Hedmark University College.

Work Areas for the Post
The post will entail work linked to teaching, supervision and research in Animation and Digital Art. The teaching assigned to the post will comprise teaching and supervision mainly for bachelor’s degree students, but there might also be teaching of master’s degree students within Digital Humanities, and Pedagogical and Creative Use of Digital Media in learning on the various teacher education programmes.
Other research and teaching duties linked to projects and commissions may also arise.

Qualification Requirements for the Post
Applicants must be able to account for qualifications linked to the duties and responsibilities required by the post, and attach documentation of their qualifications in research and own development work, teaching and dissemination. The preferred applicant must have taken part in productions and carried out their own productions and have a good national and international network. Competence in and knowledge of how the production of game art takes place in today’s computer game companies, will be of positive merit. It is also desirable that the applicant has relevant practice in the production of computer games and/or events and is able to use his/her competence in new contexts.
Emphasis will be placed on the applicant’s ability to view the subject area reflectively, experience of applied research, collaboration with businesses and commercialization, as well as teaching experience.
The person employed is expected to contribute to the further development of the Department’s study programmes, research profile and academic community, in addition to entering into more extensive research projects.
Applicants must be able to account for how they will be able to contribute to the development of the Department’s and Faculty’s research, education and dissemination profile in this area.

The applicant should have experience of at least two of the following disciplines:

* 3D Character Animation
* Motion Design / Motion Graphics (2D og 3D)
* 3D polygonal modelling, 3D sculpting, character and hard surface modelling
* Lighting and Compositing Artist
* Previsualization and Layout
* Concept Artist
* Shader Artist
* Storytelling
* Production and Project management
* Game design / interactive design
* Gamification
* Digital humanities

Personal suitability is important, especially good abilities in creating, taking part in and carrying out processes and academic development. The candidate must also contribute to internal interaction and interaction with external collaboration partners. Special qualifications in teaching or other pedagogical activity will be given great emphasis.

General Qualification Requirements

A doctoral degree or equivalent qualification in the subject area is required for employment as Associate Professor. Qualifications in accordance with the prevailing regulations are required for employment as Senior Lecturer. Applicants with a master’s degree may have their work and experience evaluated in relation to the criteria for Senior Lectureships. This must then be expressed in the application. In addition documentation of relevant practical pedagogical competence based on education or teaching and supervision is required. Hedmark University College requires new members of staff in teaching and research positions to attend a compulsory internal course in higher education pedagogy (15 credits) if they do not already have adequate pedagogical education. The person employed must master English, orally and in writing. The teaching and working language will mainly be Norwegian, but it will also be possible to give teaching in English as the University College participates in programmes for international student exchange.

Salary etc
The position is remunerated according to code 1011, salary level 60-70 on the Norwegian State salary scale, currently NOK 509 100 – 613 500 per year. Previous work experience will be taken into account when deciding placement on the salary scale. For especially qualified candidates higher remuneration may be considered. Personal insurance is included. A percentage of the salary will be deducted each month as an obligatory premium to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
