The Edmonton Arts Council Public Art Program on the behalf of the City of Edmonton is seeking an artist or artist team to integrate site-specific public art at the Davies Station. There are three potential site locations for a public artwork, all of which provide a significant public art installation opportunity. Artworks should draw on the themes of technology, industry, movement, and education at the same time reflecting commuters' and pedestrians' daily experience. The artist must identify one site location in their letter of intent.
Davies Station Location and Context:
Davies Station will become the major new transit hub in southeast Edmonton conveniently located in the middle of a light industrial area which combines an eclectic group of industrial businesses, metal fabricating shops, schools, and residences.
The Station is bounded by Wagner High School and grounds as well as the 3.06 hectare W.P. Wagner Park to the north; a busy north/south commuter artery to the east; the CN rail tracks to the south; and the Davies Industrial Park to the west. This is an unassuming, busy and industrious area of Edmonton currently little known by Edmonton residents. The Davies Station, the Davies Park 'n' Ride and Davies Transit Centre will open this area up to a larger community and awareness
