The Academy of Fine Arts, formerly known as the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts, is an international academy that trains free artists in fine arts. It offers first-class instruction in Moving Image, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Site and Situation Specific Art and Sculpture, and is a pioneer in artistic research. Integral to the studies are the students' personal aspirations, the relationships developed between the teachers and the students, and individual guidance. Awareness of the traditions, combined with the versatility of the field is central to the curriculum at the Academy. The Sibelius Academy is internationally renowned and one of the largest music academies in Europe. It trains artists, teachers and other music professionals, all skilled in independent artistic work. As a creative community of 1,500 students and a staff of more than 1,000, the Sibelius Academy is an inspiring study environment with an internationally diverse mix of students and teachers. Students are offered a wide range of opportunities to gain experience in performing. In 2016, the following Bachelor's and subsequent Master's degree programmes will be available for English-speaking applicants: Classical Music Performance (Main Instrument or Voice), Composition and Music Theory, Conducting, Folk Music, Global Music (GLOMAS), Jazz. The Master's degree programmes launching for English-speaking applicants in 2016 are Church Music, Classical Music Performance (Main Instrument or Voice), Composition and Music Theory, Conducting, Folk Music, Jazz, Nordic Master of Global Music (GLOMAS; a joint programme with the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus/Aalborg, Denmark), Nordic Master in Jazz (NOMAZZ; a joint programme with the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus/Aalborg, Denmark, and the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden). The Theatre Academy is a reformer of the performing arts and an attractive research unit. The Theatre Academy provides the highest education in the performing arts in Finland, training actors, directors, dramaturges, lighting and sound designers, professionals in dance (choreographers and dancers), performance artists, dance and theatre pedagogues and artist-researchers in the fields of theatre, dance and performance. At the Theatre Academy, art, performance, training, and research are in constant interaction. Our purpose is to provide an extensive general knowledge in the field and to encourage students to pursue analytical, investigative and reflective thinking. In 2016, the programmes available in English will be MA in Dance Pedagogy and MA in Theatre Pedagogy. These programmes present contemporary and critical viewpoints to arts education and facilitate a dynamic relationship between art and pedagogy. In addition, a new two-year pilot programme MA in Ecology and Contemporary Performance (MAECP) will launch. The programme studies questions in ecology and performance in the era of ecological crises through a multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach.
