50 Faces: a look at the Contemporary Portrait

JanKossen Contemporary New York is inviting artists to apply for the 2nd annual FRESH! group show, to be held this Summer 2016.

ABOUT:
Entitled '50 Faces', the theme looks at contemporary portraiture. In this call we are inviting 50 artists to demonstrate their artistic approach in presenting self-portraits or portraiture.

Portraits are an intimate view of the concept of 'identity', which present a description of the character, sentiment or identity of an individual or place. These visual clues about the subject are presented in various ways such as employing a particular technique or the application of varying media.

ELIGIBILITY
The competition is open to all artists from around the world. Artists must be aged 18 years or over as of 1 January 2016. Each artist proposal is limited to a maximum of five image submissions.

Emerging and established artists are invited to submit artworks in various mediums and genres; from classical painting, sculpture to contemporary abstract and mixed-media.

Only work created during the last three years and not previously shown in New York City are accepted.
No work previously submitted to FRESH! 2015 is eligible for re-submission.

SUBMISSION DEADLINES:
First round submission deadline: March 17th 2016
Artists will be notified via email by: April 14th, 2016

Second and final round submission deadline: May 12th, 2016
Artists will be notified via email by: June 9th, 2016

Artists who have been unsuccessful in the first round, may apply again as a new applicant (application fees apply) before the 2nd deadline.

APPLICATION FEE:
USD 40.- first 3 submission images.
USD 45.- four image submissions.
USD 50.- for five submissions.

Payment is with payable via the application form. Only paid applications will be considered.
