Background
Armenia Art Foundation (AA Foundation) is an independent non-profit organization which aims to support the development of contemporary art in Armenia. Based in Yerevan, it was established by a group of private investors passionate about Armenian culture.
AA Foundation supports artists working in the field of contemporary art by awarding grants, and initiates new art and educational projects in Armenia involving local and international artists, curators, and theorists.
AA Foundation promotes contemporary art within Armenia and creates a sustainable interest towards it, as well as participates in international cultural exchange initiatives and promotes contemporary art from Armenia internationally.
Job Description
The Curator is responsible for all aspects of the artistic program of the Foundation, due to launch later in 2016. The Curator, working in close collaboration with the Executive Director, the Advisory Board and within a small team, defines a long-term plan of artistic and educational programs, exhibitions, research and public activities of the Foundation.
Based in Yerevan, the Curator develops and maintains relationships with artists, curators, and organizations in Armenia and abroad with the overall goal to create an open network and raise credibility towards the Foundation.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, visionary, accomplished, and productive individual, with 3–5 years of active curatorial experience, preferably at an international level. In-depth knowledge of international modern and contemporary art is a must, and specialist knowledge of Armenian art is highly preferable. Requirements include a university degree, preferably in Arts & Humanities, professional working level of English, and at least spoken level of Armenian.
Key Responsibilities
Devise the artistic strategy of the Foundation, produce a year-round schedule of artistic programs and events (including exhibitions, artist meetings, discussions, lectures, workshops, and other public activities), and deliver it to the highest standards and on the agreed budget, working closely with the Executive Director and the Advisory Board.
Participate in activities related to collecting the digital archive of Armenian art: initiate donations and approve loans, work with artists, scholars, and other parties interested in accessing the archive; undertake special research projects for the archive collection and acquisitions as needed.
Build and develop a network of active contacts with artists, journalists, and colleagues at other institutions.
Represent the Foundation within the artistic community through participation in external activities, and become an active and credible figure in the artistic environment in Yerevan and Armenia.
Promote the artistic program of the Foundation at national and international levels, and raise awareness of the AA Foundation.
