SHRTLST EDITION #2
SPREAD THE WORD
Özlem Günyol & Mustafa Kunt
SHRTLST EDITION is an art poster publication committed to visual culture and re-flex. We will present 6 editions of the selected artists. Each poster is especially produced with the focus on its media conditions. All together they reflect a range of latest developments in contemporary art and critical thinking.
Günyol & Kunt developed 'Spread the Word' especially for SHRTLST based on a room installation of the same name. The artists develop their body of work due to the analysis of meaning and emblematic visual culture often used in a social hegemonial context. In 'Spread the Word' of 2012 the words of political party statements on posters found in public spaces all over Germany are dissociated from their rhetoric context. In alphabetical order they refer to a comprehensive political and psychological zeitgeist and - in the case of the artist's work - function as an index of words to be used again in the installation. Visitors were invited to make new sentences for creating statements from their perspective as citizens.
Özlem Günyol & Mustafa Kunt (*1977/78) both studied at the Städelschule and still live in Frankfurt am Main. They are holding numerous international prices and grants. Currently they are in Istanbul, amongst others preparing a group show called 'The Beauty of Concept' at Plato Sanat. Therefore we're happy to have them in the project and to present together the new edition according to the idea and concept - as a poster in public space.
The presentation will be on

---------
SHRTLST features artists selected due to their keen mindset. Their bodies of work demonstrate relevance that exceeds their own domain. SHRTLST demonstrates agency in a discourse of visual culture. Therefore it questions its terms of structural cultural, political, temporal, aesthetic and power relations.
SHRTLST focuses on contemporary artistic practice and the diversity of
knowledge production rather than traditional curatorial classification. SHRTLST is a method to deal with realities. SHRTLST is evolving and relational.
