Prof. dr. An Laishun Vice President, ICOM, VP & Secretary General, Chinese Museums Association: Reinwardt Academy provided me with an excellent opportunity to expand my international perspective on museology, which greatly helped in my professional and academic career.
The Master of Museology offers a cutting edge international masters programme for professionals in the museum and wider heritage sector, combining academic reflection and theory with practical competencies. Students are trained to be open minded, yet critical in their dealings with heritage and its place in society. Its scope and approach makes this programme distinctly museological, preparing for careers in big museums as well as in community projects and cultural entrepreneurship. The programme consists of 8 months of course work in the dynamic city of Amsterdam with weekly visits to internationally renowned museums and new initiatives. The lecture team consists of a core of Reinwardt lecturer with regular contributions by visiting scholars and professionals. After succesful completion of the course work the student is to conduct a 10-week internship in a country and institution of choice. The internship can be linked to the final master's thesis. The thesis has to contain evidence of original research and critical reflection.
Selected internship institutions Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, Tropenmuseum, Amsterdam UNESCO, Paris, Prince Claus Fund, Amsterdam, Smithsonian, Washington DC Museum fuer Europäische Kulturen, Berlin.
