Application deadline for grants is coming soon: Monday, April 3 2017
The International Summer Academy has a genuine global orientation. The teachers come from all over the world, such as Distruktur from Brasil, Andreas Lolis from Greece and Tony Chakar from Lebanon. Also this year's motto 'why produce art?' is highlighted from a global perspective. Ruth Noack, curator of documenta 12 (2007), questions the potential of form to resist, in times of transnational trading of art works, people, and networks, that seem to shift effortlessly from one continent to another. Diana Campbell Betancourt, chief curator of the Dhaka Art Summit in Bangladesh, examines the challenges of curating in a global context, sharing her experience of how to establish art institutions in an environment, where such institutions are lacking. Aisha Khalid, one of the leading representatives of the Pakistani art scene, revitalizes the traditional miniature painting and relates it to the contemporary global world.
