The European Month of Photography Luxembourg (a biennale) is organized by Café-Crème asbl since 2007 in collaboration with the partner cities, members of EMoP (European Month of Photography) asbl. The European Photography Month as an international event was launched in 2004 by the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris.
Currently, the EMOP network includes the institutions of 8 European capitals (Athens, Berlin, Bratislava, Budapest, Ljubljana, Luxembourg, Paris and Vienna).
For the 6th edition of the European Photography Month 2017 in Luxembourg, Café-Crème asbl and the EMoP network have chosen the theme Looking for the Clouds.
Traditionally, observing the movement of clouds or the flight of birds can predict the future. Looking for the Clouds refers to the anxiety of those who scan the sky, haunted by drones and other devices of surveillance or destruction, but also to the feeling, mixed with hope and anguish, of those search for a better life, especially migrants. While this theme has guided some institutions or galleries in the development of their program, other perspectives on contemporary society in turn broaden our horizons in this edition 2017.
The 2017 edition offers 24 exhibitions in 21 venues in Luxembourg City, Dudelange, Ettelbruck and Clervaux. These exposures are visible simultaneously throughout May 2017 (although some open before May and some extend beyond September).
