From 21 September to 2 December 2018, Fotomuseum Winterthur presents the cluster Lab as part of its ongoing exhibition format SITUATIONS. With the works by Mel Bochner, It's Our Playground, Akihiko Taniguchi and other as well as with the events taking place within the framework of the cluster, Fotomuseum invites the audience to explore the curatorial issues surrounding the present and future of the photographic.
What can and should a photography institution of the 21st century look like, and what are the questions it should address? How can it react to the changing social realities of (post-)photography – characterised by networked, circulating, algorithmic, programmable images – and how do these changes affect our understanding of photography, its presentation and the way we engage with it?
With SITUATIONS/Lab, Fotomuseum Winterthur offers a glimpse into its research in the field of post-photography and the questions that lie at the heart of SITUATIONS, Fotomuseum's dynamic format that questions the expanding media of photography between physical space and virtual presentation. At the interface of experimental exhibition and research lab, the current SITUATIONS cluster invites the audience to explore the curatorial issues surrounding the present and future of the photographic.
With works by Mel Bochner, It's Our Playground, Akihiko Taniguchi and more.
