Material Narratives: Get It While It's Hot

We are pleased to invite you to our exhibition on the 29th of June. The show will be opening in parallel to the exhibition The Dance of the Atoms at DOC in Paris.

MATERIAL NARRATIVES: Get it While It's Hot brings together the work of artists utilising edible media in an exploration of deterioration, contamination and adaptation. Like the name suggests, this exhibition provokes questions of materiality and temporality as well as the circumstances these notions impose.

For this exhibition, the artists are creating new sculptural works in which the organic and living ingredients in each piece cause a gradual evolution to the works as well as a volatility and guaranteed expiration. Throughout this process, the living works are interacting with each other, reacting to and feeding off of the atmosphere each is creating. Battling, negotiating and co-creating an environment. Rather than entering a gallery and seeing a product of marble or canvas, we are confronting a composite not unlike our own, and like the human condition, in a state of impermanence. This deliberate mortality leads us to consider how we can interpret the meaning of value when an art work guarantees an expiration date.
