In the spirit of creating a preview-map of what will be of relevance in the context of contemporary debate in the arts in 2019-2020, and thus collecting from the international curators invited curatorial concepts/activities/proposals ongoing in this two year period, the 9th CEI Venice Forum for Contemporary Art Curators will be held at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice on Thursday 9th May 2019, from 2:30 to 6:30 pm.
You are invited to attend the meeting.
Since 2003 the Forum has been a CEI Feature Event, under the patronage of the Central European Initiative. It is a biennial moment of encounter and exchange of curatorial practices among curators of contemporary art in Central Eastern Europe. The 2019 Forum will bring together commissioners and curators of the Biennale, international contemporary art curators, artists and – as a new 2019 part – young curators selected from an European open call and from the Italian 'Q-rates' workshops.
The 2019 Forum will consist of around 20 contributions by speakers from 11 countries.

The opportunity of bringing together many different voices from Forum's speakers, in search of a current definition of the principle of RELEVANCE, seems to us a very challenging theme. We would try to inquire together if a shared definition of relevance today exists in the field of contemporary art. The question on how to conduct 'a selective operation in the boundless expanse of facts' (Giorgio Negrelli) is in fact a general issue of the utmost importance in entire today's liquid society. We imagine the Forum, if possible, as an open laboratory to understand conditions/ extension of the scope and critical tools available at the present time to detect the specific importance of an artistic phenomenon with respect to given goals to which it is directed or effects deriving from it.
All contributions collected on that in Venice will be the basis of a more analytical discussion we intend to have in the second session of the Forum, scheduled in Trieste in Autumn 2019.
There is no fee for PARTICIPATION but you have to register online:
