The Department of Site-Specific Art at the University of Applied Arts Vienna offers an Info Day on October 22, 2020. Students show their works and the team of the department will inform about the program.
The Department of Site-Specific Art is part of the Institute of Fine Arts and Media Art.
The diploma program requires a minimum of eight semesters to complete.
Because of our international students and lecturers, classes are taught in German/English.
We encourage students to develop and implement their own ideas
and projects; this includes:
- Theory and practice with a wide range of course offerings
- Studio spaces and equipment
- Public exhibition space for students of the department
- Exhibition and studio visits, field trips
- Lectures, workshops, and round table events with international guests
- Cross-disciplinary exchange and cooperation with students from painting, photography, graphic design, sculpture, and media arts programs, among others
- International study abroad / exchange programs
- The university's annual exhibition
- Students and lectures with broad backgrounds
- Individual feedback
- Discussions and project work in groups
- Working with text
- Wood, metal, and mold-making and casting workshop
- Photo, video, and sound workshop
Site-Specific Art leaves the studio to confront and explore concrete sites and real spaces – to study the 'spatial manifestations' of the material world of which we are also a part. Such a site can be an idea as well as built architecture, nature, landscape, society, the public space, the exhibition space, the digital space, the fictional space, our living space.
During the course of this study program we want to examine these sites closely, experiment with them, and transform them.
The choice of means is up to the students and completely open. The focus is on finding the appropriate method, form and medium. This can range from photography, installation, painting, performance, intervention, sculpture, sound and video to text.
