Online Course at ECC Performance Art : 'Site-Specific Performance Art'
Performance art often evolves around the body's relation to a specific site, its structure and histories. Site-specific performance art is in this context a mode of working which can be traced back to environmental performance and body art from the 1960s and 70s to contemporary online and telematic performances. Many of these practices have a shared interest in exploring places outside the art institutional walls, being often a critique of how art is produced and distributed. This course will make an introduction to methods of working site-specifically, in nature, in urban and public space, collaboratively, as well as using online space and the network as a performance site. Each week of the course will have a specific thematic focus and exercises will be proposed to the participants to engage with and we will be performing together during some of the sessions too. The format is based on dialogue, discussions, and exchange, exploring the field in practice and collectively.
